(로마서 1:5) 그로 말미암아 우리가 은혜와 사도의 직분을 받아 그의 이름을 위하여 모든 이방인 중에서 믿어 순종하게 하나니 너희도 그들 중에서 예수 그리스도의 것으로 부르심을 받은 자니라 [NASB] through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about  the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles, for His name's sake, among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ

미국의 독립 선언문에는 “모든 사람이 평등하게 창조되었다”고 명시되어 있습니다. 하지만 19세기 중반까지 흑인들은 인간의 평등과 자유를 누리지 못한체 노예로 살았습니다. 이 노예제도는 남북전쟁의 중요한 이슈가 되었고, 남북전쟁은 노예제도를 반대했던 링컨이 이끈 북부군의 승리로 끝났습니다. 그리고 1863년, 링컨은 역사에 기리남는 게티스버그 연설을 남겼습니다. 아래는 연설 전문의 마지막 부분입니다.

“It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”

하나님께서는 인간을 하나님의 형상으로 창조하셨습니다. 하지만 우리는 하나님의 축복을 누리지 못한체 세상의 노예처럼 살아가곤 합니다. 하지만 우리는 '예수'의 열차를 타고 원래 우리가 있었던 그곳으로 돌아갈 수 있습니다. 우리가 꿈꾸는 나라, 우리가 돌아가려는 나라, 그곳은 예수로 말미암아, 예수를 위하여, 예수의 것으로 부름 받은 사람들의 나라입니다. “Through Jesus, for Jesus, and of Jesus”
